Working in Hospitality – Facts and a Quiz

I thought I would just share some statistics, and a quiz, that you could share with your students, and create a discussion about the hospitality sector.

What's happening in hospitality?
You may have seen the recent news stories about how many hospitality employers are struggling to fill their vacancies now that restrictions have eased and more people are going out to pubs, bars, restaurants and hotels.
Key highlights and figures include:
- since April, there has been a 40% increase in vacancies, with an estimated 180,000 vacancies in catering and hospitality
- hiring activity is up by around 157%, (according to Adzuna) compared to June 2020 when there were just 7,000 roles advertised
- 68% of holiday makers will be staying in the UK this year. This means UK hospitality will see a big increase in demand for hotels, restaurants, pubs, cafes, tourist attractions, leisure and travel companies
